The Final Result!!!

Once we had designed our creatures, we wrote a procedure on how to make them into clay sculptures and then ceramics. Then we used our procedures to actually create our clay sculptures. Different procedures of clay making were used depending on what suited the design. There was slab-building, coiling, or pinch pot. Some sculptures were smaller than others and all of them looked very unusual. Some were more colourful than others but all of them looked very creative. This was a very fun assignment considering that Art is my favourite subject and I have never done anything like this before!

Finally we can design!

After researching and practicing different drawing techniques on shading and texture, we were finally able to combine it all and design our rubbish creature. there were all sorts of rubbish creatures and all completely different. I decided to create a bottle-fish. A fish whose body is a Mount Franklin water bottle.

Time for some Research!

Our final step before designing our rubbish creature was doing some research to help us get some ideas. We researched different types of pollution that pollutes Australia's beaches and different sea life affected by this problem. Then we had to draw pictures of the pollution that we had researched and how it affected sea life.

More Practice!

Another practice we did was using different types of drawing techniques. We practiced hatching, cross-hatching, stippling and using contour lines to show the shape, shading and texture of an object. We practiced these techniques by using them on circles.

A Minor Assessment to test our Texture Skill!!

Once we had studied texture our Teacher gave us a task to see how high our skill of drawing texture was. We had to create a texture creature from our mind and try to put in as much texture as possible. Every spot of my creature had to be covered with some sort of texture. this really tested our imagination and texture skills. There were so many different, weird and creative creatures all around.

First up, perfecting Texture...

Before we designed our rubbish creature, we had to cover some skills first. the main skill we needed to learn was creating texture. We started by using frottage which is rubbing your pencil over a surface to bring out its texture. We had to rub over 6 surfaces and then try to re-draw their texture underneath them.

Our First Major Art Assignment!!!!!

It's the beginning of term2 and we have already received our first major art assignment! The good thing for me is we have to make a clay sculpture and not write a report or something. Our task is to, in groups, create a totem pole that features individual ceramic (made of clay) rubbish creatures. These ceramics have to be a mixture of rubbish and some form of sea life. This is an assignment I am definitely looking forward to.
